Safety Beach Jetty, Victoria

Safety Beach jetty located at Safety Beach in Victoria along the Mornington Peninsula. This image was taken during sunset with a view of Port Phillip Bay and a glimpse of Mt Martha camera right, with an incoming vessel dropping by after a day of fishing on a mild winters evening. Interestingly, Safety Beach was formerly referred to as Shark Bay before 1963, due to the smell of the many cattle farms nestled in the area and attracting grey Nurse sharks, which are now days, generally viewed as harmless to people

EDITORS COMMENTS
Capturing the serenity of a winter's evening at Safety Beach Jetty, Victoria. As the sun dips into Port Phillip Bay, the sky is painted with hues of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over the tranquil scene. In the distance, Mt Martha rises gently from the landscape, its silhouette softened by the fading light. A lone vessel makes its way back to shore after a day of fishing on calm waters. The jetty stretches out like an arm embracing the bay, providing a sense of protection and tranquility to all who stand upon it. The history of this picturesque spot is just as fascinating as its present-day charm. Did you know that Safety Beach was once known as Shark Bay? The area's cattle farms would attract grey Nurse sharks, which were initially considered harmless to humans. Today, we can appreciate this beautiful spot without fear or concern for these gentle creatures. This photograph captures not only the stunning natural beauty of Safety Beach but also a glimpse into its rich past. It's moments like these that remind us to slow down and appreciate the simple joys in life – watching sunset over Port Phillip Bay with nothing but peace and serenity on our minds.
