EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning aerial photograph captures the majestic hydrogen balloon marked Graf von Wedel soaring through the sky in 1920. The image, captured on a glass plate using the early Uvachrome 3 color process by German chemist Dr. Arthur Traube, showcases the pioneering technology of the time. Graf von Wedel, a German nobleman and diplomat who served as the German ambassador to Austria, is immortalized in this rare photo print. The Uvachrome process, invented by Traube in 1916 and commercialized from 1922 to 1931, has resulted in faded and yellowed colors that require extensive correction to restore their vibrancy. The photograph offers a unique glimpse into history, showcasing both technological innovation and the beauty of flight. From its birds-eye view perspective to its depiction of early aviation transport, this image encapsulates a moment frozen in time. As we gaze upon this scene from nearly a century ago, we are reminded of the endless possibilities that come with exploration and discovery. The combination of artistry and science captured in this photograph serves as a testament to human ingenuity and curiosity. Overall, this print is not just an image but a window into another era—a reminder of how far we have come while also celebrating the achievements of those who came before us.
