EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent L'aqueduc de Roquefavour, a stunning stone arch aqueduct located in Ventabren, France. With its impressive length of 393 meters and towering height of 82.65 meters, this architectural marvel is an integral part of the Canal de Marseille, transporting water from the Durance to Marseille. Constructed between 1841 and 1847 under the guidance of engineers Franz Mayor de Montricher and William Fraisse, this aqueduct draws inspiration from the ancient Pont du Gard while surpassing it in height. Its strategic location allows it to cross both the Arc valley and important transportation routes such as a river, road to Aix-en-Provence at Berre, and railway Aix-Rognac. Despite its historical significance dating back centuries ago, L'aqueduc de Roquefavour continues to serve its purpose today. It even shares its surroundings with modern infrastructure like the TGV Mediterranee line that passes nearby on an impressive viaduct. This photograph beautifully captures not only the grandeur of this man-made structure but also highlights elements of nature surrounding it - lush green grasses and a clear blue sky. The inclusion of a solitary tree adds depth to the composition while emphasizing how timelessly integrated this architectural wonder is within its natural environment. As an internationally recognized landmark and UNESCO World Heritage Site, L'aqueduc de Roquefavour stands as a testament to French culture's rich history and engineering prowess. This print by Look Me Luck Photography perfectly encapsulates both its grandiosity and serene beauty for all admirers of artistry in architecture.
