Scene From "Arrah-Na-Pogue", at the Princess's Theatre, 1865. Creator: Unknown

Scene From "Arrah-Na-Pogue", at the Princess's Theatre, 1865. London stage production. 'The beautiful scene which we have selected for one of our Illustrations will be recognised immediately by all who have witnessed, during the last three months, the representation of Mr. Dion Boucicault's very interesting dramatic story at the Princess's Theatre. It is a piece of characteristic Irish scenery, with a round tower, a broken arch, a lonely road-side, a river shining in the moonlight, and the barren hills of the dim background overlooking the lovers' trysting-place. Mr. Telbin's pictorial skill has, in this instance, provided the most effective accessories to the acting of the representatives of Beamish M'Coul and his sweetheart. The play continues to be performed with an undiminished share of public favour'. From "Illustrated London News", 1865

EDITORS COMMENTS
Step into a moonlit Irish landscape with this scene from 'Arrah-Na-Pogue' at London's Princess Theatre in 1865. The unknown photographer has masterfully captured the essence of Dion Boucicault's dramatic story, transporting us to a romantic trysting-place amidst rolling hills and ancient fortifications. A lone road winds its way through the barren landscape, while a river shines like liquid silver beneath the night sky. In this picturesque setting, Beamish M'Coul and his sweetheart prepare for their clandestine meeting - but will love prevail in this dramatic tale of passion and intrigue? The Princess Theatre's production continues to captivate audiences with its blend of romance, drama, and Irish charm.
