EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the timeless charm of Woolworth signage in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The image showcases the first floor windows and stunning granite facade of F W Woolworth & Co Ltd at 8-9 Bridge Street. Originally built as a Burton store in 1937, this building holds historical significance. The presence of granite facades on various Burton stores, including those in Stratford-upon-Avon, Kingston-upon-Hull, and Reading, adds to their architectural grandeur. It is believed that Fenning & Co of Hammersmith may have been the suppliers of this exquisite stone. In this black and gold masterpiece by Nicholas Anthony John Philpot from Historic England's collection, we are transported back to an era when shops were more than just places to purchase goods; they were symbols of community and heritage. The classic design elements showcased here evoke a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. As we admire this photo print, we can't help but appreciate how it encapsulates the essence of old-world charm combined with modern-day elegance. This image serves as a reminder that even amidst changing times and evolving shopping trends, there will always be beauty in preserving our architectural history.
