First of all 22 year old Gill Freeman, who has just come down from Cambridge University, heard this morning that she had got her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Gill was down at Henley this morning to see her fianc?, 23 year old Henry Putnam, coach of the Caius College Boat Club of Cambridge University, to victory when they beat Kings College, London, by two lengths. Putnam has been studying law at Cambridge, and to crown their happiness Henry this morning gave Gill an engagement ring and their engagement was announced. They are pictured on the river bank at Henley, Henry sits on an old ladys push bike on which he coaches his victorious crew. July 1955
