Apollo 8 Collection

Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to leave Earth's orbit and travel to the moon. Launched on December 21, 1968, it was also the first mission to orbit the moon and return safely back to Earth. Astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders became the first humans to witness an "Earthrise" from lunar orbit. They also took some of the most iconic photographs in history of our planet from space. During their six-day mission, they broadcast live television images of their journey around the moon which were seen by millions around the world. Apollo 8 proved that a human crew could safely navigate beyond low Earth orbit and return home safely.
