The RAFs Red Arrows aerobactic team burst into the sky above Newcastle Airport with an off the cuff demonsration of their terrifying skills.
They raced across the airport, skimming the ground, with a dense cloud trailing behind then, then burst into a starshell flying up unto the air in every direction.
All this after a 350 mile flight from their base in Kent, which the teams 10 Folland Gnat jets devoured in a quick, 38-minute trip.
The team was in Newcastle to announce the start of the years season of displays. Eighty-five displays were planned, including their 500th since the squadron was formed in 1965.
After refuelling at the airport, the Red Arrows gave their show, then raced off again.
They were due to return in the summer for displays at Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside.
