Apollo astronaut Ronald E. Evans
Apollo astronaut Ronald E. Evans in an inner pressure suit. This is the inside layer of the space suit which will later be used by Evans on Apollo 17, the last manned mission to the Moon, in December 1972. The space suit is designed to protect an astronaut by creating an artificial environment which limits radiation and the effects of vacuum and temperature. The pressure suit was used to stabilise the pressure, which could be kept lower than atmospheric pressure because the spacesuit does not need to carry nitrogen. Evans is testing the pressure suit at NASAs space suit contractor in Delaware, USA

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Apollo astronaut Ronald E. Evans donning an inner pressure suit, a crucial component of his space exploration gear. This particular layer of the spacesuit was destined to be utilized during the momentous Apollo 17 mission in December 1972, marking humanity's final voyage to the Moon. Crafted with utmost precision and innovation, this space suit served as a shield against radiation, vacuum conditions, and extreme temperatures that prevail beyond Earth's atmosphere. During this testing phase at NASA's esteemed space suit contractor in Delaware, USA, Evans meticulously assessed the functionality and durability of this remarkable piece of engineering marvel. The pressure suit played a pivotal role in maintaining stable internal atmospheric conditions for astronauts like Evans while venturing into outer space. Unlike regular atmospheric pressure levels on our planet, lower pressures were maintained within these suits since they did not require nitrogen supply. As we gaze upon this monochrome image capturing an iconic moment in history, we are reminded of the indomitable spirit and courage exhibited by individuals like Ronald E. Evans who fearlessly ventured into uncharted territories for scientific exploration and human progress. This photograph is a testament to mankind's relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond our earthly boundaries and serves as a poignant reminder of our unwavering dedication towards pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space exploration.
